01 3rd Thessaloniki Tango Day | Autumn Edition

One day.
All of it.

Twice a year, in Thessaloniki, a room fills with people who donate five euros. Not for a class. Not for a show. To be together, and to vote on which Syzoi cause receives the donations.

Three workshops. A live performance. An experiential day. A charity vote. A tango party where no one sits and everyone dances. From ten-thirty in the morning until the music decides to stop.

The €5 donation supports Syzoi entirely. That afternoon, you hear both causes and vote. The majority decides. You have to be there to choose.

"Tango taught us that the most generous thing you can offer another person is your full attention. We built this Day so that twice a year, an entire room does exactly that, and gives the money to someone who needs it."

Eight minutes.
Twelve years.

Georgi drove four hours from Sofia. His partner had never seen tango before. On the drive back she said: "I understand now why you love it." Twelve years he had tried to explain it. Pablito & Efi did it in eight minutes. This is what you are coming to experience.

WHO THEY ARE

Pablito has taught tango on four continents. Europe, North and South America, Asia. Twenty-two years, eight countries, thousands of private students. He is based in Thessaloniki. Not passing through. Here, by choice.

Efi is a classical ballet and tango dancer. She came to Pablito as a student. Five months later she was on stage with him. A body and a soul trained by ballet understands structure and feeling. Tango gave something unique to this pair. If you have seen the video, you already know why.

Together, they teach you to dance. They show you why being here is worth it.

What happens
when you arrive.

Welcome · Coffee · Food bags
Free coffee on arrival. Leave your bag of non-perishables at the door for the Κοινωνικό Παντοπωλείο — that gesture opens the day. Collect your ballot. Two Syzoi causes have been shortlisted. You will hear both and cast your vote this afternoon.
Arrival · 15 min
Workshop I · The Body Knows
You already know how to do everything in this workshop. Walk. Stop. Shift your weight from one foot to the other. Stand next to someone. That is the entire vocabulary. We take those movements and do them with a little more intention, in a room doing the same thing. Nobody is ahead of you. Nobody is watching. Whatever you do is right.

Break
Take a breath.

Workshop II · The Space Between
This workshop has one goal: try to move with another person without using words. That is it. No plan, no choreography, no prior agreement. Just two people figuring it out in real time. Most people find it funny at first. Then surprised by what follows. This is the part of the day people tend to talk about afterwards.

Workshop III · The Music Proposes
You already know how to walk. You already know how to move with another person. This workshop is about the third voice in the room: the music. In tango, the music does not play in the background. It proposes. You will learn to hear it differently: the breath before the beat, the phrase that ends before you expect it, the pause that asks you to stay still. Then we practice moving from that. No choreography. Just you, one or another partner, and what the music asks of you.
Musical connection
Lunch
Stay. The conversation that breaks out over lunch is usually the one people remember longest.
Social · 45 min
Experiential Day · Parousia
Twenty minutes. Not a talk. Pablito guides the entire room through the Greek idea of full arrival: being wholly, uncomfortably present. You do not observe. You participate. You leave different.
Experiential · 20 min
Syzoi · Two causes
A Syzoi representative steps forward and presents two causes: three minutes each. No slides. No fundraising language. Just the truth of what each cause does and who it reaches. By the time they sit down, the room knows. Walk up. Cast your ballot. The votes are counted during the performance.
Syzoi · 10 min
The Returning · Pablito & Efi
A performance in three acts. Pablito & Efi dance, then speak, then dance again. Between the songs, they tell the story of The Returning: what it means to come back, to a person, to a place, to yourself. The ballots are counted while you watch.
Performance · Livestreamed
Charity Vote · The result
The ballots are counted. The winner is announced. The room understands, perhaps for the first time, why it came, and that it was the room itself that chose.
Vote · Philanthropy
Tango party · the room dances together
If you have never danced, you will be guided onto the floor. If you have danced for years, you will find the floor changed by the people around you. No one sits out. The day ends the only honest way it could. / Αν δεν έχεις χορέψει ποτέ, θα σε καθοδηγήσουμε στην πίστα. Αν χορεύεις χρόνια, θα βρεις την πίστα αλλαγμένη. Κανείς δεν κάθεται.

The music stops
The room does not want to leave. Someone always asks when the next event is. That is how you know something real happened.

I came because a friend wouldn't stop talking about it. I don't dance. I have never danced. I left with the strange feeling that I had been waiting for this room my whole life.

04 The donation
€5

Less than a coffee. Less than a tango class.

Not a ticket price, because there are no tickets. It is a charitable donation to Syzoi. That afternoon, you hear both Syzoi causes and choose. Every donation supports the winning cause. You will know exactly where your donation went, because you sent it there.

The workshops, the performance, the experiential day: Pablito & Efi's contribution to every edition. Given so your donation can travel further.

Come join us. No tango experience, no partner needed. All you need is the desire to experience something new.

The Day is open to everyone. Come, watch, participate. Donate to Syzoi's koubara if you want to cast a vote. Bring a bag of non-perishables for the Κοινωνικό Παντοπωλείο. That is the real entry.

05 The experiential day

The Greeks had
a word for this.

Parousia. Full arrival. The ancient Greek word for what happens when something enters a space so completely that the space itself changes. And occasionally, in a room like this one, a stranger who makes you understand, for eight seconds, what it means to be here. Pablito's experiential day guides you through exactly this: not to explain it, but to produce it, together, in twenty minutes.

08 Before you decide

Questions
we expect.

No. Most people who attend have never danced tango. The day is built around presence, shared experience, and Syzoi. The workshops are designed for complete beginners. The event is in Greek (and English if needed).

Yes, and many people do. You do not need a partner for the workshops. You will meet people in the room. That is part of the point.

A milonga is the name for a social dance gathering (a tango party). It is people dancing together in the same room. Beginners and experienced dancers, side by side. You will be guided onto the floor.

Comfortable clothes you can move in. Smart casual is the norm. No special shoes or dance clothes required. Comfort over style, though nobody here will judge either.

Greek (and English if needed). Pablito & Efi speak both fluently. If neither feels like home, you are still in the right room. The body understands.

No. It is a charitable donation to Syzoi. Donors cast a vote that afternoon on which of two causes it funds. The workshops, the performance, and the experiential day are Pablito & Efi's gift to the room.

The day is designed as a single journey and each part builds on the last. That said, life is life. Come as you can. You collect your ballot at the door and cast it after you hear both Syzoi causes in the afternoon, so arriving by 11:00 matters most.

One email arrives confirming your place. Nothing more until October 17. No newsletters unless you opted in.

Yes. During the tango party there is a draw for 4 private sessions with Pablito & Efi. Your raffle number is in your confirmation email. No extra step, no extra donation. Everyone who donated online and brings the food bag gets a number. When the draw happens, just open your email.
